Over time, the spring mounts on a vehicle gets worn down. Both mounting holes and hardware lose their shapes. Gaps form which leads to increased vibration. The vibration can make the ride quality uncomfortable. It also puts other components under stress. When this happens, the spring mounts have to be replaced.

The process of replacing mounts can be complicated. The mounting point is welded on the chassis. There are no fasteners that can be unscrewed to remove a spring mount. Removing the mounting bracket requires grinding the entire set off the chassis and fabricating a new one which will then be welded on the chassis. Of course, it is also possible that the wear on the mounting bracket can be fixed simply by reinforcing the bracket or reconditioning the mounting holes.
Both processes are very technical. The mounting bracket has be fabricated based on the manufacturer specifications. This is to ensure that the bracket works with OEM and aftermarket components designed for the vehicle model.
Suffice to say, the process of replacing spring mounts is not something that can be done at home and over the weekend. Shops that provide such services have special equipment to produce precise geometry and other specifications. One of the popular service shops in Sweden employ CNC laser cutters and bending machine to produce mounts that are precisely the same as the original.
