Signs Of Worn Spring Mounts

Before we get to talking about signs of a worn spring mount, let me first list down the functions of the mounts. This should be quick enough. As the name suggest, the spring mounts are the parts where suspension springs of the trailer are attached to the chassis. In many trailers like car haulers, the mounts hold the springs which in turn hold the axles which ultimately hold the wheels. If you take out the mounts, there is no way of attaching the wheels to the trailer. A trailer without spring mounts is like a truck without an engine. It just would not work!
The spring mounts take plenty of beating. It gets pushed and pulled with tremendous force over a thousand times for every kilometer the trailer travels. The mounts will deteriorate over time. They can get bent, develop cracks, and fall off. You definitely don't want them falling off while on the road. It is important to be aware of the condition of the spring mounts every time you take the trailer out for some job.
Here are two very common and easily noticeable signs that your spring mounts require some fixing or replacing.
Increased vibration. Deformation of the mounting hole gives the spring fasteners some wiggle room. Instead of sitting flush and tight, bolts move during driving and generates vibration.
Loud noise. Just like how deformation products movement space for the generation of vibration, it also causes components to bang and hit each other, producing a significant amount of noise.
